Method and apparatus for tensile testing of metal foil

    Get PDF
A method for obtaining accurate and reproducible results in the tensile testing of metal foils in tensile testing machines is described. Before the test specimen are placed in the machine, foil side edges are worked until they are parallel and flaw free. The specimen are also aligned between and secured to grip end members. An aligning apparatus employed in the method is comprised of an alignment box with a longitudinal bottom wall and two upright side walls, first and second removable grip end members at each end of the box, and a means for securing the grip end members within the box

On the design of an adjustable high precision latching hinge

The design and test details of a high precision hinge and locking mechanism created principally in support of the Lockheed space deployable Flexrib Parabolic Antenna concept are presented. These developed improvements in the detail design of ultra-precise rib hinge and contour adjustment mechanisms will allow radio frequency antenna reflectors to expand into the 15-50 meter diameter size class and to support the .013 mm. deployment repeatability tolerance required to support the 12+ GHz frequency range

Vacuum and ultraviolet radiation effects on binders and pigments for spacecraft thermal control coatings

An evaluation of several silicone resin binders and powdered inorganic pigments for potential use in spacecraft thermal-control paint formulations is presented. The pigments were selected on the basis of a hypothesis relating the heat of formation of a compound to the compound's resistance to ultra-radiation-induced degradation. Reflectance measurements were made in situ to determine degradation rates due to ultraviolet radiation. The tested polydimethylsiloxane resins were not significantly affected by long exposures to ultraviolet radiation. All the pigments, which were dispersed in a polydimethylsiloxane resin, were degraded by ultraviolet radiation as determined by an increase of solar absorptance. For the materials evaluated in this study, no evidence was found to indicate that pigments with high heats of formation were resistant to ultraviolet degradation

    Study of wrap-rib antenna design

    Get PDF
The results of a parametric design study conducted to develop the significant characteristics and technology limitations of space deployable antenna systems with aperture sizes ranging from 50 up to 300 m and F/D ratios between 0.5 and 3.0 are presented. Wrap/rib type reflectors of both the prime and offset fed geometry and associated feed support structures were considered. The significant constraints investigated as limitations on achievable aperture were inherent manufacturability, orbit dynamic and thermal stability, antenna weight, and antenna stowed volume. A data base, resulting in the defined maximum achievable aperture size as a function of diameter, frequency and estimated cost, was formed

Synthesis of Small Molecule Derivatives of CK-666 as Potential Inhibitors of the Arp2/3 Complex

    Get PDF
The Actin-Related Protein (Arp) 2/3 Complex is an actin nucleating factor intrinsically involved in cellular regulation of actin networks during life-essential processes such as motility. Overexpression of the Arp2/3 complex has indicated as a factor allowing the proliferation of certain metastatic cancers. This work describes the synthesis and in vitro biochemical testing of several molecules predicted by computational docking to be inhibitors of Arp2/3 Complex, and therefore of potential interest in clinical applications. The molecules are designed based off of the structure of known Arp2/3 inhibitor CK-666, which was discovered via high-throughput screening. Details of the synthesis of the tryptamine derivatives are discussed, and the bulk actin polymerization assay used to determine potency of the new compounds is discussed

Aggregate Corn Area Response Under Risk: Some Implications for Price Stabilization Programs

Investigation of the corn revenue risk of Filipino farmers indicates their vulnerability to wide variability in domestic and world prices. Given the imperfect market and heavy dependence of farmers on trader’s price information, it is important to incorporate risk in any modeling attempts on the farmers’ cultivation areas.stabilization program, rice commodities, rice farm, corn and corn products, risk
